About the Webinar

Learning outcomes:

  1. Review the epidemiology and burden of pneumococcal disease in Australia.
  2. Review the wide range of illnesses caused by pneumococcal disease.
  3. Review the different serotypes of Prevenar 20 and Capvaxive and why these are important.
  4. Highlight the current Australian recommendations for children and adolescents <18 years old and in adults aged 18 years and over.
  5. Be familiar with the updated PneumoSmart Tool to help identify patients due for pneumococcal disease vaccination.
  6. Describe the safety profile of Prevenar 20 and Capvaxive.

Presenters

Speaker: Angela Newbound

Angela Newbound is an Immunisation Education Consultant based in South Australia, and is a member of the Immunisation Coalition.

She has been involved in immunisation program delivery in South Australia for over 24 years, originally as an immunisation provider, and then in program coordinator roles within the Divisions of General Practice, SA Health Immunisation Section, the Medicare Local Network and the Primary Health Network until December 2024 in which she provided clinical advice, support and education to a wide range of immunisation providers.

Moderator: Dr Andrew Baird

Andrew is a General Practitioner in St Kilda, Melbourne, and a Medical Advisor with a medical defence organisation.  He has a background in rural general practice and medical education.
