Western Australia Announces Free RSV and Influenza Vaccines for Aged Care Residents
The Western Australian Government has announced that residential aged care residents will receive free RSV and influenza vaccinations ahead of the 2026 winter season. The initiative aims to reduce the significant burden of respiratory illness among older adults, who remain at highest risk of severe disease, hospitalisation and complications from both influenza and RSV.
By funding these vaccines for aged care residents, WA is strengthening protection in one of the most vulnerable settings, particularly as RSV continues to emerge as a serious threat for older Australians. The program complements existing National Immunisation Program measures and highlights the importance of proactive winter preparedness in aged care facilities.
