Welcome to a podcast series on seasonal respiratory infections. There are four 15 minutes CPD accredited podcasts which include influenza, travel respiratory infections, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and pertussis

Dr Mohamad Assoum – Podcast 1 & 2

Dr. Mohamad (Mo) Assoum is an infectious disease epidemiologist and global health strategist with expertise in spatial epidemiology and determinants of infectious diseases.

He holds a PhD focused on the prediction of infectious disease using geographic and environmental data, alongside a background in public health program implementation and health systems strengthening.

Mo has led large-scale funding portfolios tackling infectious diseases across Africa and Asia. His work bridges cutting-edge analytics with real-world impact, aiming to strengthen disease surveillance systems, improve health equity, and inform policy for better infectious disease outcomes globally.

He is currently a research fellow working in clinical trials and innovative disease surveillance systems.

Dr Deborah Mills – Podcast 2 – Respiratory Travel Infections

Dr Deborah Mills is the Medical Director of a full time specialised Travel Medicine clinic in Brisbane, Australia. She has worked in the area of travel medicine since 1988. She is the founder of a network of travel medicine clinics across Australia: the Travel Medicine Alliance.

Her book ‘Travelling Well’  is now in its 21st edition with over 210,000 copies in print.

As part of a research collaboration with academic groups from Australian Universities, CRESTMA, she has published 28 times; largely clinic based research that has influenced travel medicine guidelines in Australia and internationally.

Her current research interests are intradermal vaccines (especially Rabies and Japanese Encephalitis), sexually transmitted diseases, TB, vaccine side effects, smartphone apps, and presenting to varied audiences to encourage safer travel.

Dr Sarah Chu – Podcast 1 Influenza

Dr Sarah Chu graduated from the University of Queensland in 2004 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

She is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and has a Certificate in Travel Health; she enjoyed providing travel medicine services at The Travel Doctor TMVC Brisbane before COVID-19 and is an accredited Yellow Fever doctor.

In addition to being awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, she is a Fellow of The Australasian College of Tropical Medicine, Fellow of The Australasian College of Tropical Medicine (Faculty of Travel Medicine), Associate Member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Dr Chu also holds a Diploma in Dermatology from the Australian Institute of Dermatology, and a Diploma in Child Health from Westmead Children’s Hospital and the University of Sydney. She enjoys practising yoga and is a registered level 1 yoga teacher with Yoga Australia.

Dr Chu recently completed Physician Board Certification in Lifestyle Medicine with the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine. She is a Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland and enjoys teaching the next generation of doctors-in-training.
